چکیده

Median eminence and ventromedial hypothalamus have in the past been the principal foci of research in neuroendocrine and neurovisceral control mechanisms. The present report provides an overview of work involving the dorsomedial hypothalamic nucleus (DMV). This structure is located dorsal to the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMN) to the plane of the dorsal premammillary nucleus. Fibers from the DMN pass with the periventricular system and the dorsal longitudinal fasciculus of Schütz and have been traced to the midbrain tegmentum and reticular formation. Intrahypothalamic connections involve intensive networks between DMN, lateral hypothalamic nucleus (LHN) and VMN. Regarding neurotransmitters, recent studies indicate that the DMN receives noradrenergic innervation along two pathways, a dorsal and a ventral one. Monoamine-containing systems approach the DMN From the lateral hypothalamus and the bulk of these fibers are carried in the medium forebrain bundle from their cells of origin in the brain stem. Studies of the vascular supply indicate that both VMN and DMN receive their blood supply from the internal carotid artery...

Leptin activates distinct projections from the dorsomedial and ventromedial hypothalamic nuclei.

Leptin has profound effects on feeding, metabolism, and neuroendocrine status. Evidence indicates that the hypothalamus coordinates these responses, though the specific brain pathways engaged by leptin remain obscure. The paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVH) regulates pituitary gland function and feeding, and innervates autonomic preganglionic neurons, making it a candidate to regu...

Psychological stress activates a dorsomedial hypothalamus-medullary raphe circuit driving brown adipose tissue thermogenesis and hyperthermia.

Psychological stress-induced hyperthermia (PSH) is a fundamental autonomic stress response observed in many mammalian species. Here we show a hypothalamomedullary, glutamatergic neural pathway for psychological stress signaling that drives the sympathetic thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue (BAT) that contributes to PSH. Using in vivo drug nanoinjections into rat brain and thermotelemetry, we...

P-21: RF-Amide Related Peptide mRNA Expression in Male Rat Dorsomedial Hypothalamic Nucleus during Chronic Stress

Background Chronic stress induces male reproductive dysfunction; however, the involved mechanisms are not clear. It has been suggested that the gonadotrophin-inhibitory hormone, known as RF-amide related peptide (RFRP) in mammalian species, may mediate this inhibitory effect of stress. The objective of the present study was to compare the effect of chronic stress and glucocorticoids receptor an...

Dorsomedial hypothalamus mediates autonomic, neuroendocrine, and locomotor responses evoked from the medial preoptic area.

Previous studies suggest that sympathetic responses evoked from the preoptic area in anesthetized rats require activation of neurons in the dorsomedial hypothalamus. Disinhibition of neurons in the dorsomedial hypothalamus in conscious rats produces physiological and behavioral changes resembling those evoked by microinjection of muscimol, a GABA(A) receptor agonist and neuronal inhibitor, into...
